Favorite Pictures from the Collection: A Selection by Francisca Schätti

The collection of the Glarus Art Society, which has grown steadily since the founding of the Society in 1870, now holds far more than 1000 paintings, sculptures, and prints. This inventory can only be presented in part at any one time on the premises of the Art Museum. The collection of the Glarus Art Society has developed over a long period of time, and hardly any focus areas can be discerned. However, it clearly reflects the artistic taste of an era. The question repeatedly arises how and according to which criteria excerpts from the collection can and should be shown. In recent years, artists who have presented their works in the Glarus Art Museum have regularly been asked to compile a selection of pictures from the collection. This year, the Glarus Art Museum has invited two culturally interested individuals from the canton of Glarus to sift through the warehouses and to present a subjective selection. Francisca Schätti from Schwanden is the first in this exhibition series to show her favorite pictures from the collection. The focus of her selection is on portraits by Swiss artists from the 1930's to the 1950's.
